Rose Terwiske, 46, left, of Jasper, has a life defined through daughter Stephanie, 15, who suffered a stroke during birth that resulted in infantile spasm seizures. Because of Stephanie's condition, Rose's life revolves around those with special needs. " I will always have to be her voice," Rose said. "I will always have to fight and defend Stephanie."

Patricia Zakre, 89, of Concord, moved back in with her daughter, Sheila Zakre, after staying four months in a nursing home where she fell and broke her hip. "I may have 20 more years to practice my profession and 30 or 40 more years to be a mother and a wife." Sheila said. "I may only have months more to be a daughter."
